Re: Can anyone explain how to play this E9 lick?
Great phrase...
Going from IV to V in key of B, it sounds like this to me...
beat......4...........&....../......1............&............2............&...........3......
1--------------------------------------------
2----------------------------8D----8--------
3-----7B----8-----7-----8----8-----8-----8
4----------------------------------------8-
5-----7-----8-----7A----8A------------------
..after this, on beat "3&" it sounds like he slides up to fret 14 for some F# dominant stuff.
That fret 8 C&E double stop right before the slide up to fret 14 sounds dissonant on its own but its the end of the chromatic 'climb' in semitones of the lower note...
Hope this helps!

I like those close counterpoint moves. Check out Buddy Charleton at 2:28. Someone sent me tab for it if I can find I will share it.

LOL!
Me, too!
For those who don't know, Danny Muhammad played in Ray Price's band for several years, and came as close as anyone to sounding like Buddy Emmons, who recorded the original version of "Healing Hands of Time" with Ray Price.
