A turn around in E. E/9th

Post by Ricky Davis »

Here is a turn around I revamped from a Lloyd Green thing he did on a waltz. I extended it somewhat and put it to a 4/4 beat and came off pretty good. Count one;two;three and play the pickup; then think of the triplet licks as four of them and eack starting on the beat. "1"two;three; "2"two;three; "3"two;three; "4"two;three "1".
So one measure for the turn around split in E then B then E. I hope that makes since.

Ricky, I really think this is the way he did that phrase. That half to full “a” pedal
is what I’m hearing. Lots of tension there! The one thing I figured out about
Lloyd a long time ago is that he’s like a billiards player, he takes a shot, but is
always in position for the next one. If I have difficulty figuring out one his licks,
I try to find where he ends up and work backwards and I can almost always
get it using that technique. Jon

once again my post came out skewed. There is no single note picking, everything should line up in verticle rows.
[This message was edited by Jon Graboff on 06-07-99]

Yea Jon; I'll go with you on that. The turn around that Jon just posted was off a song called "The Fool's Castle" from a Tommy Collins record that Lloyd Green played on. I took that turn around idea and re-worked it to the original post I made. I like to hear things and change them up somewhat and make a lick or turn or work the idea into a solo. Good work Jon and you have a great ear for that stuff.

Thanks Ricky. I do OK picking this stuff off of records but maybe some day I'll come up with something of my own that someone else will want to cop! That's what makes the greats, GREAT!
